描述:
The purpose of this case study was to analyze the nature and effectiveness of a collaborative
lesson
planning
experience by four elementary
physical
education
teachers. Teachers met four times to plan then have one colleague teach a
lesson
in fitness to a third grade class. Qualitative and quantitative analysis was performed on statements made in four
planning
, one teaching, and two debriefing sessions. Further, there was a systematic observation of student and teacher behaviors during the actual
lesson
taught to determine class/teacher effectiveness. It was indicated in the results that the collaborative effort produced: (a) an effective
lesson
in which proper attention was paid by teachers to task presentation, content development, teaching functions, and student compliance (b) an experience that elicited enthusiasm, a greater sense of professionalism, and was more motivating than traditional professional development experiences such as workshops and in service training, and (c) subsequently taught lessons that resulted from deeper and more reflective planning noteworthy of mature teachers.
