描述: This collection of poems, The Hauntings, deals mainly with death, the supernatural, and real events that can haunt people or the individual self. This thesis explores many imaginative and perceptive happenings that are horrifying and tragic; yet necessary to face in order to come to an understanding, explore resolution, and find hope for closure. The purpose of my poetry is to reveal things that no one wants to face; the things that lurk in the dark that often scare people, and to encourage them to trudge through those experiences to come out on the other side bent, but not broken. Thematically, I explore haunting in different ways to expose the fragility of the human condition. Sad or violent stories are brought to the forefront to show people the Other in front of them. Personal family history is intertwined with the dark side of pop-culture, East Texas landscapes, and a juxtaposition of a child self with an adult self in a synthesis of human emotion and understanding through a Southern Gothic lens.
