  • 描述: Foreign debt is a tool for engendering economic growth. When properly applied, it could be used to reduce inequality in a nation as envisaged by the United Nations' sustainable development goal ten (10). It is also settled in the literature that debt servicing can be an obstructing factor in the quest for reduction of inequality in Nigeria. Using the fourth republic as a barometer, this study sets out to analyze the effect of foreign debt and reduction of inequality (2015-2020). It also evaluated the quantum of international political mileage accruable from Nigeria's domestication of the SDG goal of "reduction of inequality" despite increasing foreign debt profile. The study adopted qualitative method with the aid of descriptive analysis with data from Key Informant Interview and Secondary Data from the Debt Management Office (DMO), SDG office in the Presidency, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This is further complemented by expert opinion from reputable journalists, economists and financial analysts. The study concluded that debt remains a a tool for jumpstarting economic development. However, its procurement and application must be done in a manner that makes it difficult for diversion from the primary objective of reduction of inequality. The study therefore recommended that the Federal government should strengthen the debt management framework and the agency to help give a regular guide and supervision of the long run debt effect hence.
