Description:
This research aims to explore the adjustment issues of Vietnamese new immigrant children in primary schools in Taichung City. Through purposive sampling, the researcher conducted interviews and observations with thirteen children of Vietnamese new immigrants in four elementary schools. The researcher also interviewed their homeroom teachers and classmates, and analyses the data with qualitative method. The research results are concluded as follows: 1. If language problems are solved, children of new immigrants can generally adapt well whether in life or at school. Besides, from the aspect of classmates, students primarily have the same attitude towards children of new immigrants as the ordinary ones. 2. In terms of learning motivation, children of new immigrants are no different from Taiwanese students; additionally, some homeroom teachers even think that children of new immigrants are more motivated. 3.
