描述: 就人類文化發展的歷程而言，有兩個範疇具有決定性的重要性，一為哲學，二為宗教。在這裡──《老子》之「道」與《聖經》之「神」，一中一西，一者正屬於「哲學」；另者則被歸類於「宗教」或者「神學」。只是中西文化的不同、「哲學」與「宗教」或者「神學」領域之間的差異，並不意謂「道」與「神」真的不同。因為道是唯一的，神是獨一的，皆是宇宙萬物的根源與根據，若是如此，那絕無可能「道」是「道」，而「神」是「神」，兩者間毫無關聯，那違背「存有」的同一性。然而，《老子》與《聖經》概產生於人類文明的軸心時代，各為東西方文化或宗教經典之作，內容俱是博大精深，探究不易，能同時對兩者瞭解並稍作深入探究比較者更是困難。故自明清，西方傳教士來華以來，固有研究比較儒家與基督教思想者或道家與基督教思想者，卻是牽涉文學、教育、歷史、科學或希臘哲學等其他領域，並未將重心、焦點集中於《老子》之「道」與《聖經》之「神」，即所謂宇宙本體之比較，即或有專門探討者，仍不少似是而非，甚至錯誤之論點。承上，本文在此試從東西方兩大原典本身之對照、比較，並集各家研究《老子》之說，以及歷代無數人探討《聖經》真理之所得，或能解答歷世歷代關於宇宙本體及生成方面好些矛盾而複雜的問題，盼能為此人類面臨無數艱難與混亂的時代，以及全球人文自然環境充滿困境與危險的時刻，做出一點貢獻，甚至找出一條正確的出路。
As far as the human cultural development is concerned, there are two scopes that are decisive important. One of them is philosophy, the other religion. Here, “Tao” in “Lao-Tzu” and “God” in the Bible, the East vs. the West, the former is classified as “philosophy” while the other “religion” or “theology”. It is only the cultural diversity between China and the West and the difference between “philosophy” and “religion” or “theology”; it doesn’t mean that there are any differences between “Tao” and “God”. Because Tao is exclusive and God is unique, both of them are the origin and source of the creatures of the universe. If so, it is impossible that “Tao” and “God” are on different side. If there is no connection between them, it is against the identity of “being”. However, both the book “Lao-Tzu” and the Bible were written at about the axle center time of human civilization, representing the classic of the eastern and western cultures or religions respectively. The text of these two books is profound, extensive, and not easy to understand so it is even more difficult to understand both of them at the same time and try to make a thorough comparison between them. Ever since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, after the western missionaries’ arrival in China, there were indeed some people who engaged in studying the comparison between Confucianism and Christianity or between Taoism and Christianity; however, some other studies such as literature, education, history, science or Greek philosophy were involved. Even someone did explore it, the focus was not put on “Tao” in the book of Lao-tzu and “God” in the Bible, that is to say, the comparison of the universe noumenon. Even though there was some similar work done, a great part of it was specious or incorrect. For this reason, the writer tried to compare these two great masterpieces according to their text and base on different studies on Lao-tzu and the truth in the Bible revealed from generation to generation, so we might find an answer to the complex and contradictory question about the universe identity and its formation, with the hope to make a little contribution to the tough and chaotic time that we are in and to the difficult and dangerous moment that the global cultural and natural environment is experiencing, we may even find a good way out.
