  • 描述: A study was conducted to determine the effect of weight loss or lack of weight gain, on experimentally derived copper 48-hr LC50s. In addition, the effect of food type on LC50s was investigated. Standard unfed tests, as well as algal fed (Selenastrum capricornutum) and trout chow- Cerophyol-yeast fed tests were used to look at weight loss and gain. An ion specific electrode and a computer thermodynamic model (REDEQL) were used to measure and predict copper species.
    Weight loss was significant during acute tests. The unfed and algal fed 48-hr control dry weight predicted total copper LC50s very well. Trout chow fed tests resulted in significantly higher LC50s than algal fed or unfed tests.
    REDEQL predicted free copper as well as the specific ion electrode after a stability constant of $-17.3$ was used to calculate the formation of the copper dihydroxide complex. Dry weight predicted copper carbonate LC50s better than total copper LC50s or any other copper species LC50s.
