  • 描述: The purpose of this research was to ascertain if members of the American Psychological Association adhere to the classical ideas of Alfred Adler. A total of two thousand letters of invitation were mailed to a random sample of doctoral level psychologists. The mailing labels were supplied by the American Psychological Association after being randomly selected from their membership mailing list. Of the requests, one-hundred and four persons responded. The participants were directed to complete a survey located on the website, Psychdata. The survey consisted of a Likert scale inquiring whether or not and to what degree one endorses specific concepts of Alfred Adler, Behaviorism, and Psychoanalysis. Additionally, one question each for Existentialism, Reality Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral, Person Oriented, and Jungian was introduced. The Adlerian concepts were endorsed significantly higher than the Behaviorism and than the Psychoanalysis concepts, indicating that the Adlerian concepts were endorsed by the participating respondents at a significantly higher rate than both Behaviorism and Psychoanalysis. This gives credibility to the contention that members of the American Psychological Association tend to adhere to the classical ideas of Alfred Adler.
