  • 描述: The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine middle school students' attitudes towards science after participating in an escape classroom gaming experience. Scores were analyzed from 129 eighth-grade students at one international school in the Middle East. A pre-post research design using The Friday Institute for Educational Innovation (2012) Student Attitudes Toward STEM (S-STEM) Survey was used to examine changes in students' confidence and self-efficacy in science and 21st-century learning skills. The paired-samples t-test and an analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to answer the four research questions for this study. The research was framed by the Social Interdependence Theory and Active Learning to answer the questions: (1) How does an escape classroom gaming experience influence middle school students' attitudes towards science as measured by the scores on the S-STEM survey? (2) How does an escape classroom gaming experience influence middle school students' 21st-century learning skills as measured by the scores on the S-STEM survey? (3) Are there differences between male and female middle school students' attitudes towards science as measured by the score on the S-STEM survey after participating in an escape classroom gaming experience? (4) Are there differences between male and female middle school students' 21st-century learning skills as measured by the scores on the S-STEM survey after participating in an escape classroom gaming experience? The findings concluded that there is a statistically significant difference between the pre-and post-survey for science attitudes and 21st-century learning skills. There was no statistically significance difference between male and female and science attitudes or 21st-century learning skills.
