    The thesis is an analysis of the String Quartet in C minor, Op. 51-1 by Johannes Brahms. To help performers and educators understand this quartet in a deeper level, this thesis offers theoretical references and musical interpretation of the composition. The thesis contains two parts, the first part discusses the life of Johannes Brahms in chapters two and three for a better understanding of the background and motivation of the work. The second part analyses the form, structure, melody, and harmony of this composition, and offers a detailed reference in music theory and musical interpretation. Chapter five provide summer of the thesis.
