描述: 少年小說以成長啟蒙為主要基調，青少年追求成長，旅行是邁向成長的儀式化行為。本論文以少年小說中之旅行題材為研究方向，採《順風耳的新香爐》與《愛德華的神奇旅行》二文本為探討主軸，循著旅行的出發─離家─旅程─返家的歷程，透過離與返之間的差異，闡釋旅行在少年小說中所呈現之成長意涵。本論文共分五章，以文本分析與文獻分析為主要方法，佐以青少年成長理論、神話學觀點。透過旅行離家終至返家的圓形結構，歸納出在少年小說中的旅程裡，藉著空間的跨越、異地旅行與他者的相遇、異文化的碰觸與現實的試煉，旅者激發了自我的覺醒與成長，並重新建構自我，帶著成長的差異回歸家園，面對返回的家園構築出全新的體認。旅行促成了自我與他者的對話，面對旅途中更多的不可能與挑戰，青少年重新自我探索，邁向成長之路，生命透過旅行將更加完整。
The foundation of young adult novels is mainly to enlighten the growth. While teenagers are aspiring after growing up, a journey, which is believed to be sort of ritualized behavior, is the exact way to help them achieve the goal. This thesis aims to research the theme of journey in young adult novels, and take the two books, 《New Thurible of Swu Fong Er》, and 《The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane》, as examples, by discussing the progress from departing to returning and the difference the protagonist turns, explaining the message of growth that young adult novels try to convey through the journey. This thesis is divided into five chapters, analyzing both the text and the documents with the theory of teenager maturity and the aspect from mythology. With the departing and returning within the circular structure, it generalizes how this very journey excites the protagonist him- or herself through the changing geographic environment, the meeting with others, the contact of different cultures, and the facing of challenges given from the real society. After the journey, the protagonist rebuilds him- or herself, turning back home a brand new person. A journey helps one communicate with others, and with the challenges one faces in a journey, the teenager is given the chance to explore him- or herself, and eventually grows up. This is the function of a journey – to complete one’s life.
