  • 描述: Background: Malignancy of the external auditory canal is rare. Hence, standardized staging system and corresponding treatment protocol have not yet well-established. In addition, the regional anatomy is complex. Therefore, resection with negative margins followed by reconstruction with hearing preservation remains a challenging task. Aim and Objectives: The purpose of this article is to provide our successful experience in treating an early-stage external auditory canal squamous cell carcinoma. Materials and Methods: A 62-year-old woman presented with otalgia and was diagnosed with external auditory canal squamous cell carcinoma (T2N0, stage II). Sleeve resection with additional removal of the tympanic membrane achieved negative margins. Hearing preserving reconstruction of the external auditory canal and tympanic membrane by using the pedicled temporoparietal fascia flap and rolled-up skin graft was performed followed by 2-months Gelform packing. Adjuvant radiotherapy was given. Results: The postoperative recovery was uneventful. At 2-years follow-up, the patient was cancer-free and the external auditory canal was patent. Conductive hearing ability was compatible with the preoperative status. Conclusion: For early-stage malignancy of external auditory canal, resection with negative margins and reconstruction with temporoparietal fascia flap and skin graft could yield satisfactory functional and aesthetic results.
