    The study depicts the design and evaluation of the approach embedding predefined sentences into the CMC (computer mediated communication) function of a CSCL (computer supported collaborative learning) system for elementary school students. Two hundred and fourteen sixth-grade elementary school students participated in this experiment. The students were required to accomplish group assignments either using CMC with or without predefined sentences. The differences in group collaborative products and interaction utterances between two treatments were compared. The study found that the students using CMC with predefined sentences interact more frequently on categories of “Procedure Coordination” and “Team Coordination”. Although there was no statistically difference in collaborative products between two treatments, the students using CMC with predefined sentences had higher achievement in the post-test experiment.
